HOW TO APPLY FOR A STUDENT VISA TO STUDY ABROAD?

  • Learn about visa requirements- Because visa requirements vary by country, the embassy of the country where you want to study should be your first stop.
  • Obtain confirmation from your university- Always apply for a visa before travelling to your destination. You must submit the visa application after receiving a confirmed offer from a university, and you may be required to apply in person at an embassy.
  • Determine the type of visa you should apply for- The exact name and type of visa you'll need vary by country, but you'll almost certainly need a non-immigrant student/study visa. This basically means that you do not intend to stay in that country permanently and that you are only there to study.
  • Obtain the necessary papers from your university- Contact the university or college to find out what type of visa you need and/or to request that they send you the necessary paperwork.
  • Make your application- You should be prepared to apply once your university or college has informed you of the appropriate visa you require and any documents you must submit. Inquire at your host country's embassy or consulate about how to apply for a visa, or visit their website.
  • Processing time- Visa processing can take anywhere from a few days to three months, depending on the country and your nationality. Allow yourself plenty of time to get your visa in order, as rushing an application is not recommended and may result in you losing your spot.
